[GUIDE] Making Gold off the 3.0.8 Patch

•12/28/2008 • Leave a Comment

One of the easiest ways to make gold in World of Warcraft is to get a good read on upcoming patch changes and planning accordingly. There’s usually some change or another that will cause a change in the price of goods and if you pick up on this you can stock up and make a killing. Fortunately for you, I’ve put together a quick list of some probable moneymakers for the coming patch:

Ink of the Sea – A conversion is being added allowing you to trade 10 Ink of the Sea for 1 Snowfall Ink. Right now there is a glut of Ink of the Sea on the market due to people trying to make Snowfall Ink for Darkmoon Cards. If you can get stacks of ink for 40g or less I recommend buying all you can get.

Eternal Life – The limiting factor on Darkmoon Cards is Snowfall Ink currently. With the conversion being added there will be more available making the limiting factor Eternal Life. If you can get Lifes for 30g or less I recommend buying them.

Dream Shard – The materials used for some higher end enchants are being changed to use more shards. Blizzard said that they don’t like how cheap shards are now and want them to be in higher demand. If you can get shards for under 10g I recommend stocking up.

[GUIDE] Patch 3.08 Preparation

•12/15/2008 • Leave a Comment

There is a new patch coming out and readily available on the PTR servers. There are a huge list of changes, but let us focus on the ones that impact the economy, your ability to make gold, and ways you can spend it.

Blue Posts:

“Racial restrictions on mounts have now been lifted. Night elves on mechanostriders? Tauren on raptors? You’re not seeing things.”

[Wintergrasp Commendations] can now also be purchased for the low low price of 9 [Wintergrasp Marks of Honor]. Players can visit their respective Wintergrasp vendors and put those Marks of Honor to use!”

  • Speeds up the process of obtaining PVP gear with honor, which means spending money on gems and enchants. The marks of honor can also be traded for a few new epic PVP gear (Head, Feet, Trinket) they have added to the game.

“Reduced the spell power on the [Titansteel Guardian] to bring it in line with its item level.”

  • New spell power is 459, down form 490. Slight nerf, however money can still be made on BOE epics. Most have an item level of 200, which is on par with Naxx 10-man raid drops. Once the next raid/badge gear comes out, these BOE epics will eventually fade out. Craft them while there is still an opportunity for profit.

“Weakened Giants and Iron Rune Sentinels can now be correctly mined.”

  • More mining opportunities mean more gold to be made.

“Carrion Fleshstrippers are now skinnable.”

  • Same goes for skinning.

[Living Lasher]’s can now properly be skinned with Herbalism.”

  • Located in Wintergrasp, these can be farmed for [Crystallized Life], now they can be Herbed as well.

[Transmute: Titanium] cooldown has been lowered from 3.8 days to 20 hours.”

  • As prices of the common ores/bars come down, this transmute may be worth it.

“Some neglected creatures in Icecrown have found the contents of their pockets.”

  • I’m assuming this is for a Rogue’s pickpocket ability. Some boxes have a small chance to contain epics/blue gems if you didn’t know already.

Undocumented Changes:

New achievements

  • Lil’ Game Hunter – Collect 100 unique companion pets. Reward: Little Fawn’s Salt Lick
    • Back to selling rare/vendor vanity pets on the auction house
  • Mountain o’ Mounts – Obtain 100 mounts. Reward: [Blue Dragonhawk Mount]
  • Mountain o’ Mounts – Obtain 100 mounts. -Reward: Red Dragonhawk Mount
    • More gold sinks in the form of mounts.

Pack Mule

  • Pack Mule – Summons a pack mule, giving you access to any bank items for 3 min. The mule may only be summoned once.
  • Summon Faithful Mule – Summons your faithful pack mule, giving you access to any bank items for 3 min.
    • Not sure what this comes from yet, Engineering maybe?

Winter Veil – Achievements Mini-Guide

Merrymaker is part of What A Long, Strange Trip It’s Been to get the Violet Proto-Drake. I assume that most of you will try to complete it, here is a small guide to help you becoming a Merrymaker!

On Metzen!
Complete Metzen the Reindeer / Metzen the Reindeer, Metzen is still in the Searing Gorge and in Tanaris, just like all the other years. You can check the map on wowhead. The quests for this achievement start in Orgrimmar / Ironforge depending on your faction. (Like pretty much all the quests for the event)

Scrooge / Scrooge
Another “free” achievement, just buy a Snowball and throw it at King Magni Bronzebeard in Ironforge or Cairne Bloodhoof in Thunder Bluff depending on your faction.

‘Tis the Season
To complete this achievement you will need a full set of Winter clothing.

Just like last year, the drop locations for these hats have been updated for level 80 players to prevent them from being soloable (but the red hat probably is for the stronger classes, the easiest way to complete the achievement is obviously to rush the nexus with a friend). The known drop locations in Wrath of the Lich King are as follow:

Feel free to contribute with the missing drop locations in comments.

The last part of the achievement is the Graccu’s Mince Meat Fruitcake is contained in Smokywood Pastures Extra-Special Gift and Smokywood Pastures Sampler, they will be mailed to you after freeing Metzen (see the first achievement) or completing Treats for Greatfather Winter.

Simply Abominable
Complete the Stolen Winter Veil Treats / Stolen Winter Veil Treats questline. They require you to talk to the Strange Snowman in Alterac Mountains to get a quest to kill The Abominable Greench

Bros. Before Ho Ho Ho’s
When you’re done laughing at the name of the achievement, you can check the small guides in Wowhead comments for both faction:

Alliance players have to talk to a lot more people, but Horde players have to go through Northrend (and eventually end up in Icecrown, it might be a problem for players below level 77). The hardest part of the achievement might be getting the Mistletoe, to obtain it just type /kiss while targeting a Winter Reveler. (This is a random “drop”, you might have to try it a few times to actually get the Mistletoe)

He Knows If You’ve Been Naughty
Open one of the presents underneath the Winter Veil tree once they are available. You only need to open ONE present and not all of them, it’s basically another free achievement. The presents are only available from December 25th to January 2nd and you’ll have to wait a few days before you can complete this one.

With a Little Helper from My Friends
Earn 50 honorable kills as a Little Helper from the Winter Wondervolt machine. The machines are outside Orgrimmar / Ironforge, just step into it to get a 30 minutes transformation buff and enter your favorite battleground to kill a few people! (Note that the transformation does NOT persist through death, you will have to finish/leave the battleground and get another transformation if you die)

Fa-la-la-la-Ogri’la
Complete Bomb Them Again! after transforming your mount with Preserved Holly / Fresh Holly rewarded from various quests and Winter Revelers during the event.

Crashin’ & Thrashin’
This achievement requires to use the special ability of your Crashin’ Thrashin’ Racer Controller and smash other player’s racer (Video. This item is available from the presents under the christmas tree and won’t be available before December 25th. (Except if you still have unopened presents from last year)

Let It Snow
During the Feast of Winter Veil, use a Handful of Snowflakes on each of the race/class combinations listed below. This achievement could be hard because the only way to get Handful of Snowflakes is by kissing Winter Revelers once an hour. Hopefully, they’re not soulbound and can be sold / exchanged between your characters, depending on how desperate you are you could just create level 1 characters to get enough of them. (You could also do that to sell tons of them at the AH … but you can’t sell conjured items.)

The Winter Veil Gourmet
Depending on your character, this might be the hardest achievement. It requires you to cook Gingerbread Cookie Egg Nog and Hot Apple Cider. The patterns are all available from the NPC, there are only two small problems:

  • You will need Small Egg for two of these recipes, and will probably have to run to a low level zone to farm them along with 30 other players. (Buying them at 50G/stack at the AH is also an option)
  • Hot Apple Cider require 325 cooking skill! If you never took the time to level your cooking, you will have to go through all the leveling just to complete this achievement.

Needless to say that the price of cooking reagents will most likely skyrocket.

A Frosty Shake
During the Feast of Winter Veil, use your Winter Veil Disguise kit to become a snowman and then dance with another snowman in Dalaran. The Winter Veil Disguise kit is one of the reward mailed to you after completing Stolen Winter Veil Treats.

Horde Quests

  • Great-father Winter Is Here! Just a small quest from the goblins in any major city (I think) that sends you to find Great-father Winter in Orgrimmar (outside bank). If you have already talked to Great-father Winter before then I don’t think this quest is available.

  • The Hero of The Day Starts at Kaymard Copperpinch, ends at Holly Preserver near the goblin cart outside bank in Orgrimmar. To get this quest you will need a high cooking skill (300?) and having done the “Stolen Winter Veil Treats” quest line & “Metzen the Reindeer” (both below). If you turn in 1 Deeprock Salt and 5 gold you will get 5 Preserved Holly, which can sell for a lot more when the Feast of Winter Veil is over. Not repeatable.
  • New Year’s Celebrations Basically just a quest for reputation. Very simple. Pick it up outside Undercity by the zeppelin landing and turn it in at the innkeeper in Thunderbluff. Gives reputation.

Alliance – Feast of Winter Veil Guide

Alliance Quests

  • Greatfather Winter Is Here!
  • Just a small quest from the goblins in any major city (I think) that sends you to find Greatfather Winter in Ironforge (outside bank).
  • If you have already talked to Greatfather Winter before then I don’t think this quest is available.

  • The Hero of The Day Starts at Wulmort Jinglepocket and ends at Holly Preserver (30 yards or so behind the goblin cart in IF).
  • To get this quest you will need a high cooking skill (300?) and having done the “Stolen Winter Veil Treats” quest line & “Metzen the Reindeer” (both below).
  • If you turn in 1 Deeprock Salt and 5 gold you will get 5 Preserved Holly, which can sell for a lot more when the Feast of Winter Veil is over. Not repeatable.
  • New Year’s Celebrations Basically just a quest for reputation. Very simple.
  • Pick it up by the FP in Stormwind (I think) turn it in at the innkeeper in Stormwind. Gives reputation.

Other things you can do:

    • Snowman Kit
    • Red Helper Box
    • Jingling Bell
    • Green Helper Box

    • Clockwork Rocket Bot

Emotes for rewards. If you type /kiss to a winter reveler (found at the inns) you will receive some fresh holly that transforms your mount to look like a reindeer, or some mistletoe which gives another player a +20 spirit buff for 30 minutes.

Here’s one way to make money from the Feast of Winter Veil. The recipes Recipe: Gingerbread Cookie and Recipe: Egg Nog can only be bought during the Feast of Winter Veil from the goblins in the major cities. Stock up on these for some copper and silver and sell them for several gold each later. You can even put them on the AH during the Winter Veil season. I’ve sold several cookie recipes for 75 s already.

Transformers. There are Goblin operated devices called PX-238 Winter Wondervolt in strategic locations throughout Azeroth. For example near the zeppelin tower outside Orgrimmar, the zeppelin tower outside Undercity, in Menethil Harbor, and outside IF. Step inside and you’ll be given a gnome santa outfit for 30 mins, or until you right click the buff icon. You can do it any number of times.

Snowballs. Snowballs are sold very inexpensively by the goblins in the major cities. Be sure to stock up because it’s the easiest way to get them and they are a component when using several items you can obtain during the Feast of Winter Veil. They can also be sold or used for fun later on.

There are also Hardpacked Snowballs, that you can get in Alterac Valley, that can actually knock players down or interrupt spell casting.

Grinding Small Eggs and baking Gingerbread Cookies. Small eggs are needed to make Gingerbread Cookies that are used in a quest available to both factions. The other component is Holiday Spices which you buy from the goblin vendors in the major cities. You also need the recipe sold by them. Then you can start making cookies and selling to other players who don’t know how to get them or are too lazy. The problem is getting small eggs. I have (as of now) a secret location for this. While everyone else is grinding them from birds or whatnot in Westfall, Redridge, Mulgore etc. I have found a much better spot. The problem with the birds is that they are few and far between.

Instead, go kill moonkin in Darkshore. They are very low level and drop just as many eggs as the birds, but they are much, much closer together. You can get 90 eggs an hour (at level 60) here which you can turn into cookies and sell for 30-50 s each. They also drop some light feathers that you can sell to mages. I had no problems selling 37 cookies for 50 s each when testing this, but it was on the first day of the Feast and as more and more people complete the quest, demand will go down.

Here’s an extra tip, by the way: you can bring up the “who list” and type darkshore. You will see which players from your faction are there. If you don’t see any high level players you can assume that no one from your faction is farming the moonkins. I had absolutely no competition when I was there, as opposed to Redridge, Mulgore and Westfall that I also visited. Here’s a map.

There’s also a new spot, since The Burning Crusade, which is even better for horde or high level alliance. Map.

Just don’t expect everyone to like you for providing this “service” to them.

Winter Hats. These sometimes drop from bosses in high level instances, such as Emperor in BRD, Voone in LBRS, Darkmaster Gandling in Scholomance and Prince Tortheldrin in Dire Maul. If you see them wearing it, it’s supposedly a 100% drop. The Winter Hats can also drop from random mobs of any level, it seems. They are BoP.

Winter Veil Disguise Kit You can supposedly get this in the mailbox 24 hours after finishing some quest given by the goblins (most likely the Stolen Winter Veil Treats quest chain). Be sure to save some snowballs so you can actually use this later.

Egg Nog Shapeshifting. If you drink a random, low, number (1-3 usually) Egg Nogs you will turn into either a snowman or a reindeer and become drunk to boot! You make them with cooking and the recipe and the spices are only available at the goblin NPCs in the major cities, so if you want to be able to make this out of season, make sure to stock up on spices. Small eggs can be grinded in Darkshore as described above.

[MOVIES] The Day The Earth Stood Still REPACK TELESYNC XviD-OPTiC

•12/14/2008 • Leave a Comment

W REPACK by OPTiC for this Keanu Reeves movie. Appearantly the first release had bad audio, which is fixed now. I’ve included the video sample and subtitles again, and forum post might interest you too;) Appearantly there’s also a fake DVDSCR by PUKKA floating around..

A representative of an alien race that went through drastic evolution to survive its own climate change, Klaatu (Keanu Reeves) comes to Earth to assess whether humanity can prevent the environmental damage they have inflicted on their own planet. Klaatu himself already has a negative opinion of humans, and when detained by Regina Jackson, the United States Secretary of Defense, and barred from speaking to the United Nations, he decides they shall be exterminated so the planet – with its rare ability to sustain complex life – can survive. Can Dr. Helen Benson (Jennifer Connelly) and her stepson Jacob (Jaden Smith) convince Klaatu humans are worth saving.

[GUIDE] Paladin – 20-50k xp per minute *not confirmed*

•12/14/2008 • Leave a Comment

Quest: That’s Abominable! – Thottbot: World of Warcraft

I was leveling up my friends paladin, and I had this quest “That’s Abomible” or something, in icecrown

At this spot- there is a ton of mobs, I gathered them up and clicked on the summon thing but I forgot to get the mats, so I had about 50 mobs to kill. When I killed them, I noticed they gave full xp, and 5 second respawns.

I used Seal of Light and Judgement of light + pots and bubble to stay up, gaining about 40k xp per min, so try it out and level up!

[ROGUE] Sub HAT rouge mad dps

Basically when 2 or more HAT spec’d rogue are in the same group it adds 2 or more combo points per crit, put 3 rogues in the same group w/ a furywarrior/hunter/enhance shammie ( and you get insane dps for spamming 2 buttons.)

Stated from a blue post Honor Amongst Thieves cooldown is per person in the group.

IE: Shaman, Hunter, Druid, Rogue, Paladin.

The rogue recieves one combo point each time someone crits, and that person cannot give the rogue another combo point for one second.

So shaman crits ( combo point ) crits again ( less than a second ) crits again ( combo point ), etc.

If the shaman and paladin crit at similar time, the rogue gets two points ( AS INTENDED ) and neither can send him a combo point for another second.

So if all four of them were critting once a second, he would get a constant +4 combo points
with a second cooldown betwween each group of 4 ( as intended ).

The cooldown is per PLAYER giving the rogue points, not a cooldown for the rogue gaining points from players.
